In this Homemaker Portrait, I’m joined by Kristin Park, a wife, mom, quilter, sourdough baker, and newly full-time homemaker who has just stepped away from a ten-year career as a speech language pathologist.
After years of carrying both her career and homemaking responsibilities, she and her husband made the careful, prayerful decision for her to come home full time. In our conversation, she shares what that process looked like, including the financial planning, honest conversations, and sacrifices involved in choosing a new season for their family.
We also talk about the skills and influences that shaped Kristin’s homemaking: her mom’s faithful example, a beloved neighbor who taught her hospitality and culture, and her own love of organizing, systems, and making a home function well. Kristin describes herself as an “organizationalist,” someone who enjoys the puzzle of homemaking—figuring out how to create order, beauty, and purpose in the everyday flow of family life.
Kristin is honest about the challenges too: struggling to follow through on all her ideas, learning that cleaning does not happen automatically, letting go of unspoken expectations, and resisting the “superwoman” temptation to say yes to everything.
Her reflections on seasons, contentment, and trusting God’s timing are especially encouraging for any homemaker who feels pulled in too many directions.
This episode is full of practical wisdom and gentle encouragement, from family budgeting and phone boundaries to welcoming others into your home and learning JOMO, the joy of missing out.
Kristin reminds us that homemaking is not merely a list of chores—it is the shaping of a family story, written by those who came before us and passed on to those who come next.
