What happens when the life you’ve prayed for turns out to be harder than you expected?

In our final homemaker portrait of 2026, Jessica Clark of The Lark Life shares her family’s journey from South Texas to a five-acre homestead in Missouri. After years of balancing homemaking with teaching and church ministry, she’s now homeschooling four children and running a business from home—and learning that following God’s leading doesn’t mean the road will be easy.

We talk about putting people before tasks, releasing the pressure to be “superwoman,” and giving ourselves permission to stop working and rest. From sharing garden produce with new neighbors to teaching her children to cook, Jessica offers a beautiful reminder that home is something we build together, one ordinary moment at a time.

If you’re longing to slow down and savor the good in the middle of the hard, this conversation is for you.

SHOW NOTES & RESOURCES

Jessica’s Homemaking Favorites

  • Favorite tool: Her Mockmill grain mill for freshly milled flour.

  • Baking tip: Allow freshly milled flour time to hydrate; Jessica lets muffin batter rest for 10–15 minutes and gives bread dough extra kneading time to develop gluten.

  • Homemaking hack: Make a weekly meal plan and keep ingredients on hand for an easy backup, like bean burritos or homemade pizza.

  • Signature dishes: Her Nana’s yeast dinner rolls and “chip soup”—a veggie-filled chicken tortilla soup topped with fried tortilla strips.
