Jazmine Wyland has been making a home with her husband, Matthew, for two years, and recently, they've added a 17 year old foster son to their family.
Jazmine shares her journey of the past 10 years beginning when she left home to live in her pastor’s basement apartment, learning so much about homemaking from the example of her pastor's wife, through becoming a newlywed with BIG expectations and idealized visions of home that were immediately challenged by the reality and unpredictability of married life.
Jazmine’s story is a beautiful reminder that home isn’t found in perfect homemaking, but rather in present homemaking. She has learned that to make a home, you must be flexible, intentional and resourceful to create an atmosphere and a space where you and your people feel secure and can connect with one another whatever your present circumstances.
SHOW NOTES
Jazmine's Favorites
Uno Stacko favorite game
Mentioned by Allison: Spicy Uno Rules (most common, AI generated)
Slap on 6: When any player plays a 6, everyone must immediately slap the discard pile. The last person to slap must draw two cards.
Silent 7: When a 7 is played, everyone must remain completely silent. This silence lasts until another 7 is played. Anyone who speaks or makes noise during this time must draw one or two cards.
Note: If you get UNO during a silent period, you must hold up one finger instead of saying it out loud.
Zero Swap: Playing a 0 allows that player to swap their entire hand with any other player. Some variations require everyone to pass their hands to the next player in the direction of play.
Jump-In (Duplicates): If you have a card that is an exact match (same color and number/symbol) as the one just played, you can play it immediately, even if it is not your turn. Play then continues from the person after you, effectively skipping anyone in between.
Stacking (Draw Cards): If a Draw 2 or Wild Draw 4 is played against you, you can play your own Draw card of the same type to "stack" it. The penalty passes to the next player, who must draw the sum of all stacked cards unless they can also add to the chain.
Ask for Help: If you cannot play a card, you can ask other players for help instead of drawing from the deck. Other players can offer you a card face-down. Be careful, though—they might be "bluffing" and giving you a card you can't use just to get rid of it themselves.
Winner's Signature: A popular tradition is for the winner of a round to sign the last card they played, creating a personalized deck full of memories over time.
Signature Dish: Jazmine didn't share a specific dish on the show, but she did mention how much she loves anything blueberry-lemon flavored. After the episode aired, she sent me a favorite recipe featuring her signature flavor: Blueberry Lemon Shortbread Bars.
