What to Do With Your Homemaking Weaknesses

Spoiler alert, your weaknesses are a good thing. The Bible is FULL of examples of God's great power being put on beautiful display through a weak but willing child. From Moses to Paul, we are reminded that God loves to use the less-than-qualified to accomplish His will. Why? Because in the process, He grows our faith and faithfulness and displays to a watching world His character of love, generosity, sovereignty and power. In short, He gets all the glory---as He should!

The apostle Paul puts it this way in 2 Corinthians 12:7-10,

So to keep me from becoming conceited because of the surpassing greatness of the revelations, a thorn was given me in the flesh, a messenger of Satan to harass me, to keep me from becoming conceited. Three times I pleaded with the Lord about this, that it should leave me.  But he said to me, “My grace is sufficient for you, for my power is made perfect in weakness.” Therefore I will boast all the more gladly of my weaknesses, so that the power of Christ may rest upon me.  For the sake of Christ, then, I am content with weaknesses, insults, hardships, persecutions, and calamities. For when I am weak, then I am strong.

Paul was given this "thorn" as a reminder of his utter weakness in light of God's great power. It was a daily signpost, pointing him back to the One who called, equipped, and empowered him to carry out his mission of spreading the Gospel to the Gentile world.

The Lord has called you, Homemaker, to carry out a mission of spreading the Gospel through your homemaking. If you find, like me, you feel less than capable for the task, take heart! That is a good sign! Your weakness is the perfect setting to display the strength of God. It is fertile ground for Him to grow in your heart deep roots of dependence and trust leading to a life of faithfulness and fruitfulness.

In the Monday Motivation #31, I take you to the Swiss Alps and tell you a story about how God taught me this lesson on surrendering my weaknesses to His power and purpose through steep hills and satisfied sheep.

This video and the photos from my treks up and down the steep Swiss hills are lovely to look at, and will make more sense if you listen to the episode linked above. Enjoy!

The tinkling of the sheep's bell caught my attention before I even noticed they were right next to me on the hillside path.
One of my new wooly friends who greeted me every time I passed going up and down the trail.

The view from next to the tiny hillside pasture, about half-way to my hotel. I would have missed this with the sheep.
