On to today’s homemaker portrait, I am chatting with Alecia Doty. She was nominated by her friend Tina Bergs. Here’s what Tina had to say about Alecia’s practice of the art of home: "Alecia makes her home a place where children are nurtured in the love of Christ and pointed to what is true, good, and beautiful. She is a welcoming hostess who intentionally uses her home as a place where souls can find rest, and be met with the love of Christ."
After spending an hour or so in conversation with Alecia, I can see why Tina gave such a glowing recommendation. Alecia has such great insight into the art of home. She poignantly explains that homemaking is a beautiful, hard, sanctifying, creative adventure; a high and holy calling which, if we allow, God will use to draw us to himself and transform us into the image of Jesus so that the Gospel will be displayed through our homemaking.

Hack or Tip
Place unripe avocados on the top of the fridge to ripen quickly, then store in the fridge. A little internet search revealed that this is a common practice among home cooks and professional chefs alike. The residual heat emanating from the fridge will accelerate the ripening process. To speed things up even more put unripe avocados in a paper bag, fold the bag to seal the top, and place on top of the fridge. Once avocados are ripe, remove from the bag, use right away or store inside the refrigerator and use within 2-3 days.
Product or Resource
Alecia has a child with lots of allergies and finding non-irritating cleaning products has been a challenge. When she first discovered Branch Basics and their claims of meeting every cleaning need with their safe non-toxic all purpose concentrate, Alecia was skeptical. But after using it for a while, she has been very pleased with the results. She especially loves their oxi boost laundry powder.

OTHER NOTES:
ALLISON'S UPDATE: Egg Tips & Homemade Mayo
Immersion Stick Blender for making mayo
Pastry Blender for cutting up boiled eggs
Mayo Recipe:
Add the following to a wide-mouth 20-32 oz jar
1 whole clean raw egg, use good quality or pasturized
1 cup neutral tasting oil- vegetable, avocado or light tasting olive oil (NOT extra virgin)
1 tsp dijon or regular mustard
2 tsp apple cider or white vinegar
1/4 tsp salt
Place the stick blender into the jar, touching the bottom. Turn it on and VERY slowly pull the blender up towards the top of the jar. You will start to feel the mayo immulsifying (thickening) below the blade. It should take you about 30 seconds to go from the top to the bottom. Count it out. 30 seconds takes a lot longer than you think.
UNPLUG THE BLENDER before cleaning off the blade!
Put a lid and date on the jar. Store in the fridge 7-10 days.
